Specialist security glass in London

From retail premises and banks to schools, offices and private homes, London's properties face a real and varied range of threats. Security glazing is engineered to resist these threats — slowing or stopping forced entry, withstanding repeated blows, and protecting against smash-and-grab and ram-raid attacks. Critically, modern security glass does all this while remaining clear and unobtrusive, so protection never compromises appearance or natural light.

Our specialists assess your risk and recommend a glazing build-up matched to the threat level and to relevant standards. We understand that security is rarely about glass alone, so we also advise on framing, fixings and locking to ensure the whole opening performs as a system.

Applications & design options

We provide security glazing for a wide range of settings:

  • Anti-bandit and anti-smash glazing for shops, pharmacies, banks and counters
  • Burglary-resistant windows and doors for homes and offices
  • Bullet-resistant glazing for high-security applications
  • Reception and cashier screens with speech panels and pass-through trays
  • Anti-vandal and anti-ligature glazing for schools, healthcare and public buildings
  • Fire-rated and dual-purpose security glazing where both protection and fire resistance are required

Design options include retrofitting laminated units into existing frames, supplying complete certified door and window sets, and combining security glass with toughened or low-iron glass and solar-control coatings for a balance of protection, clarity and comfort.

Materials & specifications

Security performance depends on the correct glass build-up. We supply and install:

  • Laminated security glass — multiple glass plies bonded with tough PVB or rigid interlayers that hold together and resist penetration after impact
  • Toughened glass for impact resistance, often combined with lamination for retention
  • Anti-bandit glass tested to BS EN 356 (P1A–P8B) for manual attack resistance
  • Bullet-resistant glass classified to BS EN 1063 for firearms protection
  • LPS 1270 certified security glazing for tested, third-party-assured performance
  • Part Q compliant glazing for new-build dwellings, meeting PAS 24 enhanced security requirements

We specify the interlayer thickness and number of plies to match the assessed threat, and ensure glazing is installed in suitably robust frames with appropriate beading and fixings so the protection cannot simply be removed.

Our process

Every security glazing project follows a clear, four-stage process:

  • Design — risk assessment and specification of the appropriate glass class, standard and framing system
  • Survey — accurate site measurement and assessment of existing frames and fixings
  • Fabrication — manufacture of laminated, toughened and certified security units to specification
  • Installation — secure fitting by experienced installers, with all fixings and seals finished correctly to maintain the rated performance

Standards & compliance

Security glazing is governed by a clear set of standards, and we install to them. Manual attack resistance is classified to BS EN 356, and bullet resistance to BS EN 1063. We supply LPS 1270 certified glazing where independent assurance of security performance is required, and we meet Part Q of the Building Regulations for new dwellings, including the PAS 24 enhanced-security test for doors and windows. All work also satisfies the safety glazing requirements of BS 6262 and the relevant Building Regulations, and as a FENSA registered, GGF member and fully insured installer we provide complete compliance documentation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between laminated and toughened security glass?

Toughened glass is heat-treated to be much stronger and to shatter into small, blunt pieces. Laminated glass bonds multiple plies with a tough interlayer so it holds together and resists penetration even when broken. For security, lamination is key because it keeps the opening sealed against attack; the two are often combined.

What is anti-bandit glass?

Anti-bandit glass is laminated security glass tested to resist manual attack — repeated blows from tools such as hammers and axes — under BS EN 356 (classes P1A to P8B). It is widely used for shopfronts, counters and cash-handling areas to deter and delay forced entry.

What is Part Q and PAS 24?

Part Q is the Building Regulation covering security in new dwellings. It requires doors and windows to resist forced entry, demonstrated by testing to PAS 24. We supply and install Part Q compliant, PAS 24 tested glazing for new-build and conversion projects.

Can security glass be fitted to my existing windows?

In many cases, yes. We can retrofit laminated security units into suitable existing frames, or replace the frames where they are not robust enough to maintain the rated performance. We assess this during survey and advise the best approach.

Is security glass still clear?

Yes. Modern laminated and anti-bandit glass is optically clear, so it protects without changing the appearance of your windows or letting in less light. We can also add tints, solar-control coatings or privacy finishes if required.
